I have been using the Celestron AVX & CGEM mounts for years with mostly good luck in guiding. Guiding I started out using PH2 then jumped into the ASIAIR for guiding which at the time was a game changer. Now I am using the ZWO AM5 mount and this was a great step in my guiding which works very well for me average error .30, love this mount… I parked the new carbon tripod and I’m sure it’s a good tripod but I set my AM5 on my AVX tripod and it works very well plus I like the height of the OTA. For us guys getting a little older this mount is light and I’m not breaking my back moving it around.
Good to hear you are happy with the AM5 @Bill I have read a lot about the AM5, especially having a high load capacity without counterweights which would be a great advantage, especially for portability. How do you find the software driver integration with the AM5 with software like Nina and PHD2 Guiding? or are you using it only with the ASIAIR to control everything?
I stopped using PH2 when ASIAIR first came out and have never looked back. I use everything ZWO and I am very happy with the easy workflow and actually it made things very simple. I recommend this route especially for people starting to get into the hobby.
That is good the AM5 and ASIR work well together, which you would expect seeing as they are both ZWO products. What OTA are you imaging with on the AM5? Are you using any counterweights?
