Even though it is important for a mount to know the position it is in to assist with tracking, is necessary for a mount to have GPS in the mount head or to have a GPS accessory? Systems like the ASIAIR already have a GPS built in, but what if you are using a PC and only the time and date can be retrieved from the computer?
There are some mounts which come with a GPS accessory supplied such as the CEM40 mount from iOptron, and there are others that require an external accessory connected which is an additional purchase. I am seeing some new mounts that do not have any GPS built and do not seem to have a GPS accessory for them such as the new Wave 150I and 100I mounts from Sky-Watcher.
What is your feeling on having a GPS built into the mount, or as an accessory? it is a gimmick, or is crucial to your sessions. What do you do to get the GPS location to your mount?
